Make Money with Adsense
One of the easiest ways to get a taste of making money from your website is through Google’s Adsense program. Once your site is accepted into Google’s program, you just need to put the ad’s special code snippet on your pages. Google takes care of finding advertisers and matching them to your site.
Adsense is Contextual
Contextual ads are good for business because they are related to the content of your site. The word literally means “in context” — something that’s beneficial when you’re hoping that people will click on your ads!
Google’s spiders crawl your site, checking out your pages and figuring out what you’re writing about. They do this regardless of what kind of site you have — a blog, a static website, a Site Build It! site, forum, etc. The spider will figure out what your content covers. Then the Adsense ads placed on your page will match your content. At least, they usually do. Sometimes they’re off-base, but usually they do well.
For example: if your site is in the health and fitness niche, your Adsense code will display ads about health and fitness. You may show diet ads, ads for fitness programs, ads for health supplements, etc.
Very occasionally Google may get something wrong. For example, a page about diapering babies may show ads for adult diaper products. This is obviously off-base. You can go into the Adsense interface and stop incorrect ads from appearing.
How Much Can You Expect to Earn?
Adsense earnings vary widely. Your niche plays a huge role in how much you earn because your payout per click is based on how much the advertiser is paying for their ad.
Adsense works because Google sells your ad space to an advertiser. Google shares part of that revenue with you (the exact amount is not known). If you’re in a hot niche, like insurance or legal niches, where ad space is selling at premium prices, you will make more because the advertiser pays Google more for every time a visitor clicks.
Some niches just won’t make as much per click, so it will take you longer to make the income that a blogger or a publisher in another nice makes.
Your traffic also plays a big role. If you get more traffic, you’ll probably also get more clicks. A comprehensive traffic strategy is a must and will help you to maximize your Adsense earnings.
